Hi all,
Thanks for a great October meeting of the Syracuse Urbanism Collective!
At this month’s meeting, we had Mackenzie Gregg and Jisela Turner from EDR visit, representing the city’s Vision Zero initiative. They brought out a big map of the city, and we all used sticky notes to mark areas on the map with traffic safety concerns and suggestions. Thanks for your participation!
Below are some upcoming events and updates. Events can typically be found on our website calendar.
- Smart Growth in CNY Conference – All day, Fri Nov 15, McCarthy Mercantile. Buy your tickets here. Please buy your tickets soon if you want catered meals included. We may run out of catered meals since we just finalized numbers with the caterer.
- The Northside UP Symposium – A pre-conference prior to Smart Growth in CNY. With the theme Change is Happening… will happen to us? For us? Or with us?, this symposium will take place on Thursday, November 14th on Syracuse’s Northside, at various locations along the 700 and 800 block of N Salina. The keynote dinner features Professor Sean Drake and a welcome by Deputy Mayor Sharon Owens, with various equitable development breakouts in the afternoon and evening. Registration is required but admission is free! Find the schedule, more details and registration form at the following link: https://www.hopeprint.org/nupsymposium
- Share your feedback on the CNY Regional Market at https://surveymonkey.com/r/CNYRegionalMarket by October 31!
- The City of Syracuse’s Open Data Day event. You can register at this link: https://www.meetup.com/syrtech/events/302578991/. This is a free event this Saturday at our wonderful public library downtown. The day is meant to celebrate community contributions to our open data portal, learn data skills for all technical levels, host a hackathon around apps or analysis around the theme of healthy housing, and opportunities to connect with others. Lunch will be provided as well.
- Fill out this poll for our brand new Urbanism Book Club! Help us decide when/where to meet and what to read. https://forms.gle/41QGQmyA6S2CkEjv7

- The Creeekwalk Wayfinding Project finally has funds to purchase materials! We’ll resume with volunteering days in April, weather permitting.
