Hi all,
Thank you for a great May meeting of the Syracuse Urbanism Collective on Tuesday!
We facilitated a crowdsourced safe bike route mapping exercise. Thanks to everyone who drew their preferred relatively safe bike routes on our big printed maps of the city! We’ll have these uploaded into our platform soon at trails.syracuseurbanism.org for you to use. Feel free to also contribute routes directly at that link.
After the meeting, we had a quick happy hour at Middle Ages Brewing and installed our temporary bike rack from last year’s Community Streets Project across the street in Barker Park!
We also shared a few updates:
- The Community Streets Project street painting days are now moved to June 6 & 7. Please sign up again using the new form (1-2 min): https://forms.gle/uS7Xq26XWbnHesa6A
- The Design Team will be reimagining the plaza in front of City Hall. Be ready for an exercise with zoomed-in printed maps, trace paper, sketching, and brainstorming on Thursday, June 4 at 6pm in Salt City Market.
- The Public Policy Team has our next meeting on Monday, June 8 at 6:30pm in Salt City Market, and we need your help:
- Please sign up to work on one of the policy memos that no one has signed up for yet. No experience is required! https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1-was-4nuBOhoF2BaIq3Q6W1gpDqaJDI8g4G9FHhWiow/edit?usp=sharing
- Please comment on other peoples’ draft memos and research to make sure our policies are as strong as they can be: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1vVipgOJFwDhLSwk7HBSOsjmVLNUuNCAg?usp=sharing
- Our next meeting with NYSDOT’s I-81 Viaduct Project team is on Tuesday, June 2. We should have updates to share with you soon after!
- For the next Urbanist Book Club meeting, we’re starting a new book. We’re reading to the end of Chapter 5 / pg 114 of “Life After Cars” by Sarah Goodyear, Doug Gordon, and Aaron Naperstek.
- Thanks to everyone who participated in our recent Syracuse Mets game fundraiser. We had a great time!
