Monthly Meeting Follow-Up – September 2025

Hi all,

Thanks for another great monthly meeting of the Syracuse Urbanism Collective, this past Tuesday at the Beauchamp Branch Library! Our next meeting will be on Tuesday, October 28 at 6pm at the Salt City Market Community Room.

At this month’s meeting, we had two guest presenters and several announcements:

  • County Legislator Maurice Brown spoke about the county budget process. You can reach him at mauricebrown@ongov.net
  • Alex Lawson presented his analysis of Centro’s bus system redesign. Comment on the redesign here.
  • You can buy Syracuse Urbanism Collective merch before our campaign expires in 11 days! Visit https://www.customink.com/fundraising/syrac to purchase a branded hoodie or tote bag.
  • On Monday, I was part of a panel discussion with WCNY for the Connect NY episode on New York’s Public Transportation. Other panelists included Miguel Velázquez, CEO of RTS (Rochester’s transit agency), and Neil Burke, Transportation Planner for the City of Syracuse and Board Member at Centro (Syracuse’s transit agency). As a guest, I represented the Syracuse Urbanism Collective, speaking about transportation alternatives to driving. We had several project updates, too:

  • We recently met with NYSDOT again about our I-81 Viaduct Project Recommendations, and learned that multiple design recommendations we’ve made have been incorporated into Phase II, with more to come soon!
  • Our Community Streets project has begun conversations about what our project application for the upcoming year should focus on. Click here to learn about our first project within this program, from earlier this year.
  • Our Public Policy Wish List and memos have caught the attention of the mayor, and our board will be meeting with key members of the administration later this month.

To join any of our project teams and to engage in other discussions outside of our general meetings, please join our WhatsApp Community with this link, and then join the project group within the community. To receive the link to our WhatsApp Community, first join here.

  • This includes our SUC Social group, a new space for connecting with urbanist friends and coordinating social activities!
