Monthly Meeting Follow-Up – August 2025

Hi all,

Thanks for another great monthly meeting of the Syracuse Urbanism Collective, this past Tuesday at the Onondaga County Central Library! Our next meeting will be on Tuesday, September 30 at 6pm at the Beauchamp Branch Library on the Southside at South Salina and Colvin, with County Legislator Maurice Brown as a guest to speak about the ongoing county budget process and lead a discussion.

At this month’s meeting, we had several guest presenters and several event announcements.

  • Ryan Fitzgerald from Salt City Harvest Farm spoke about their seed saving workshop on September 13. The day’s event is split into 2 parts: Let’s Process Seeds Together! and Saving Seeds, Sowing Growth – Seed Saving Workshop & Farm Dinner Fundraiser.
  • Cam Clarke spoke about the BareRoots Music Festival at the Thornden Park Amphitheater, also on September 13.
  • Jaynelle Nixon spoke about our newest event series – monthly workshops, beginning with Advocacy & Activism 101 on September 15, 6pm at the Betts Branch Library! Stay tuned for more info about this and our workshop series!
  • Moving People Transportation Coalition is participating in a Week Without Driving from September 29 – October 5. Learn more here. We’ll be sending out more info on how to participate locally, as well. Plus, the date for the next Moving People meeting is September 17, 4pm at the CNY Philanthropy Center.
  • Our Community Streets team is meeting on September 17 to discuss ideas for our application to the program next year. More details will be available soon.
  • The Syracuse Cultural Festivals Fund is open for applications here.
  • You all voted on and approved our public policy wish list, available here
  • The next meeting of the Urbanist Book Club is September 23, 6pm at Recess Coffee Westcott. We will be discussing parts 1 & 2 of Building and Dwelling by Richard Sennett.
  • More announcements, resources, calls to action, and programming coming soon.

We also had breakout groups to brainstorm workshop ideas. Thanks for the great suggestions! If you have additional ideas, please let us know!
