Hi all,
Thanks for another great monthly meeting of the Syracuse Urbanism Collective, this time at the OneGroup Education Center! Our next meeting will be on Tuesday, August 26 at 6pm at the Onondaga County Central Library in Downtown Syracuse.
At this month’s meeting, we reviewed recent successes – the implementation of our Community Streets project, our first SWAG bike ride, our third board game meetup, and Moving People Transportation Coalition’s decision to join the Syracuse Urbanism Collective! Moving People (MPTC) will act as our transportation-focused project. Learn more about MPTC and their meeting schedule here. Their meetings are also on our calendar. We also shared our Block Party Zine on our resources webpage, progress on our regional planning comic strip, and info on our upcoming meetings with elected officials and NYSDOT. We also updated everyone on our next book for book club – Building and Dwelling by Richard Sennett. Let us know in the book club WhatsApp group if you plan on joining us!
We then hosted a brainstorming session in three smaller groups about public policy, which led to some great conversations. The results of the brainstorming session will inform our work, including our agendas during upcoming meetings with elected officials.
There are updates from the city’s Vision Zero Plan (we were represented in the city’s committee to create this) and SMTC’s MTP 2050 Plan (open for comment).
Additionally, we have a vacancy on our board – please let us know if you’re interested in becoming our next secretary!

- SWAG Bike Ride – Ride at 7pm on Tuesday, 8/5/2025. Onondaga Lake Parkway, 106 Lake Dr, Liverpool, NY 13088. We will meet at Griffin Visitor Center, 4 E Shore Trail, Liverpool, NY 13088. Pace: goes at the pace of the slowest rider, no one left behind. Chatty, social, relaxed ride.
- SUC Hikes – Tuesday, August 12th at 6:00 pm. Clark Reservation State Park. 6105 East Seneca Turnpike, Jamesville, NY 13078. Open to all!
