MPTC Joins the Collective!

Moving People Transportation Coalition (MPTC) is a transportation-focused community organization in Central New York that predates our organization. As of July 2025, they’ve joined the Syracuse Urbanism Collective as one of our projects! Within our organization, they retain their organizational structure and leadership. We’ll share more information soon. For now, we’d like to thank them for all of the incredible work they’ve done for this city and region, and we look forward to continuing that work with them.

Below is a description of MPTC’s vision and principles:

“Our Vision is a sustainable regional transportation system that focuses on moving people, not cars. The “Moving People Transportation Coalition” uses social justice principles to guide our search for the best possible outcomes. These principles include respect for neighborhoods, community consensus-building, environmental quality, accessibility, safety, health promotion and economic empowerment.”

See our memorandum of understanding with MPTC below, which has been approved by both of our boards:

The Syracuse Urbanism Collective (SUC) and the Moving People Transportation Coalition (MPTC) share a common goal of building a more vibrant and more just Syracuse and Central New York where people are better able to get around by bus, bike, and foot. In the interest of greater cooperation and inclusivity, SUC and MPTC agree to formally affiliate under the following terms.

  • MPTC will maintain its name and structure.
  • MPTC meetings will be open to SUC’s membership.
  • MPTC steering committee members will join SUC as individual members.
  • SUC will maintain its name and structure.
  • SUC will consider MPTC a ‘project’ within that structure.
  • SUC will consider the MPTC steering committee’s chair as the ‘project manager.’
